Lilac Essential Oils  – Benefits and Usage. This is part of a series of articles that describes the benefits and characteristics of different scents and essential oils. We hope this helps you choose the appropriate essential oil products for your usage.

What Is Lilac Essential Oil?

Lilac essential oil has been used for its medicinal benefits for hundreds of years. It was realized that lilac oil was effective at reducing symptoms of fever, helped with digestive issues, and ward off colds and flu viruses. Lilac essential oil comes from the leaves of the Syringa vulgaris plant. The plant is a native of Eastern Europe and Persia. Lilac essential oil is a steam-distilled extract of the leaves. It is light purple in color and has a refreshing floral scent.

Lilac essential oil has potent antifungal properties that make it an effective agent for eliminating fungi from your body and helps lower the risk of fungal infections. We all have a certain amount of fungus and yeast in our bodies and by and large they cause no serious issues. They are typically kept in check by our body’s bacteria; however, problems may arise if certain conditions are present such as a weakened immune system. Common fungal infection includes ringworm, athlete’s foot and yeast infection.

Lilac essential oil, as a vermifuge, helps purge your body of intestinal worms. Vermifuges are anthelmintic drugs. Anthelmintic drugs typically stun or kill intestinal worms and other parasites without harming your body. They are either vermifuges (parasite-stunners) or vermicides (parasite killers).

Lilac essential oil has potential benefits for your skin as an astringent which prevents premature aging.  If you have wrinkles, lines, blemishes, or other age-related demarcations, the oil can be used to tighten the skin. It will increase the skin’s elasticity as well.

Lilac essential oil is used as an effective febrifuge in traditional medicine. A febrifuge is an agent that helps reduce fever and provides comfort from its effects. Because it promotes sweating, the oil encourages the release of toxins and enables the body to heal.
